Knitting the Winter Socks


Winter is already starting to move in here in northern New England with freezing rain and snow. I knit these socks with a worsted weight yarn, a soft and cozy warm alpaca yarn, and as you'd imagine, they're nice and thick, warm and comfy. I wear them with my Crocs in the fall or inside my barn boots when I'm feeding my flock of hens or letting them in and out of the barn. 

This is just your basic sock pattern from the book, Knitting Socks, which is a great book with instructions for basic patterns in different weight yarns. As you can see in the picture, I knitted these socks using 4 double-pointed bamboo needles. Below are the socks, just about done and I'm just finishing up the toe.
